Meeting the Cool Neighbours, II: Photometry of southern NLTT stars
نویسنده
چکیده
We present BVRI photometry of 180 bright, southern nearby-star candidates. The stars were selected from the New Luyten Two-Tenths proper motion catalogue based on optical/infrared colours, constructed by combining Luytens’s mr estimates with nearinfrared photometry from the 2-Micron All Sky Survey. Photometric parallaxes derived from (V-KS), (V-I) and (I-J) colours, combined with the limited available astrometry, show that as many as 108 stars may lie within 20 parsecs of the Sun. Of these, 53 are new to nearby star catalogues, including three within 10 parsecs of the Sun. Subject headings: stars: red dwarfs; Galaxy: stellar content

00 2 Improved Astrometry and Photometry for the Luyten Catalog . I . Bright Stars
We outline the construction of an updated version of the New Luyten TwoTenths (NLTT) catalog of high proper motion stars, which will contain improved astrometry and photometry for the vast majority of the ∼ 59, 000 stars in NLTT. The bright end is constructed by matching NLTT stars to Hipparcos, Tycho2, and Starnet; the faint end by matching to USNO-A and 2MASS. In this first paper, we detail t...

We complete construction of a catalog containing improved astrometry and new optical/infrared photometry for the vast majority of NLTT stars lying in the overlap of regions covered by POSS I and by the second incremental 2MASS release, approximately 44% of the sky. The epoch 2000 positions are typically accurate to 130 mas, the proper motions to 5.5 mas yr −1 , and the V − J colors to 0.25 mag....
متن کاملNew nearby stars in the Liverpool - Edinburgh high proper motion survey selected by DENIS photometry ⋆
We present a systematic search for new neighbourhood stars among the Liverpool-Edinburgh high proper motion survey which we cross-identified with the DENIS survey. Their high proper motions ensure that they are not giant stars. The distances are estimated using DENIS photometry and we found that 100 stars probably lie within 25 parsecs from the Sun. They are mostly M-dwarfs, and 10 are probably...
متن کاملMeeting the Cool Neighbors III: Spectroscopy of Northern NLTT Stars
We present initial results of an all-sky search for late-type dwarfs within 20 pc of the Sun using the New Luyten Two-Tenths (NLTT) catalog cross-referenced with the 2-Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) database. The results were obtained with low-resolution optical spectroscopic follow-up of candidate nearby-stars as a preliminary test of our methodology. MJ , derived using spectral indices, and 2M...
متن کاملHalo Luminosity Function From Photometric Calibration of the Revised NLTT
We calibrate the photographic photometry of the revised New Luyten TwoTenths catalog (rNLTT) by matching 3448 rNLTT stars to the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). The correction is linear in magnitude and goes from zero at V ∼ 14 to 0.32 mag at V = 19, in the sense that rNLTT was previously too bright. The correction implies that the underlying USNO-A2.0 photometry, on which rNLTT photometry is ...
